Microgreens are young, tender plants that are harvested when they are just a few inches tall. They are packed with flavor and nutrition and can be used in a variety of dishes.
Microgreens are loaded with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that are beneficial for overall health. They are also a great source of dietary fiber and can help to reduce the risk of chronic diseases.
The recommended way to store microgreens is in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Adding a square of paper towel or some other moisture absorber can extend the life of your microgreens. Keeping your microgreens as dry as possible should allow them to last 14 or more days!
Microgreens are a versatile ingredient that can be enjoyed in a variety of ways. They can be blended into smoothies for a boost of vitamins and minerals. Microgreens can be added to sandwiches or burgers for a fresh crunch, mixed into scrambled eggs or omelets for a colorful and nutritious breakfast, or used as a pizza topping or mixed into your pizza sauce for added nutrients. Ultimately, the best way to eat microgreens is whatever way you enjoy them most!
Sprouts and microgreens are grown using different techniques and are harvested at different stages of a plant’s life. Sprouts start as seeds and grow with nothing but water, usually in a warm, moist jar. The seeds germinate and are allowed to grow for just 4 to 6 days. Both the seed and the sprout are consumed. Microgreens are usually grown in soil. Seeds are spread in a tray where they germinate and then grow with light. They are grown with plenty of airflow and are harvested between 7-14 days after they have used photosynthesis to increase nutrition. Microgreens are cut above the soil level, and only the stem and cotyledons, and/or leaves are consumed.
